The Uncle Ben is now being exclusively made for, and carried by, Inglewood Instruments. (It holds a special place in Ryan's heart, read below)
The Woodrow custom banjo-sounding Uncle Ben instrument is perfect for camping, hiking, and road trips. With a 7-note fretboard, it’s another perfect first musical instrument.
With a rather old time banjo twang, the adorable Uncle Ben has a genuine Appalachian attitude. The tear drop shape makes for a great sound, while the woods aid in tone and lasting durability.
Each Uncle Ben instrument is made with a maple body and a quarter-sawn red oak top. One fret marker on the first fret. Moveable ("floating") bloodwood bridge/saddle.
30.1” long, 4.4” wide across body, 1” deep, so it's easy to play and even easier to pack.
Standard Tuning:
Key of D -> D, A, DD

Why Inglewood Carries "Uncle Ben"
Somewhere else on this silly website is a more complete story of my journey into the heart of dulcimer madness. In 2012, on my honeymoon in Asheville, I saw an unusual instrument at a booth on the sidewalk. It was a Woodrow Uncle Ben (then known as the Old Timer), which my wife encouraged me to purchase, and which has since dramatically influenced the trajectory of my life.
Over the years I was able to stop into Woodrow store and got to know Dan before his passing several years ago. Recently, I was able to work with the Woodrow folks to bring the Uncle Ben into the Inglewood Instruments family where it will live for the foreseeable future!
