FAQs

What’s the difference between your courses and your YouTube videos?

I love teaching on YouTube and will always share free lessons there. But my courses are designed to give you a clear path forward—step by step, in the right order—so you never feel lost or stuck. Instead of bouncing around random videos, you’ll have everything laid out for you: structured lessons, chord guides, TABs, practice sheets, and play-alongs. It’s the difference between dabbling and really learning how to play with confidence.

Will these courses work with my instrument?

Yes! These lessons are made for all stick dulcimer guitars—including Cumberland, Merlin, Strumstick, Pickin’ Stick, Boondocker, Roosebeck, and even custom-made instruments. If it’s a three- or four-string stick dulcimer guitar, you’re good to go.

How do I know which course is right for me?

Good news: all of our courses are beginner-friendly, and most include tips and tricks for when you’re ready to level up. If you’re brand new, the 5-Day Challenge or Learn to Play: 101 are great starting points. If you already know the basics and want to dive into songs, Learn to Play: Folk might be your next step. Still unsure? Email me at hey@heyinglewood.com and I’ll give you a personalized recommendation.

How long until I play my first song?

Faster than you think! Every course is designed to get you making music right away. In fact, you’ll be playing your first song within the first 30 minutes. Stick with it for 15–30 minutes a day, and you’ll see progress almost immediately. If you want a fun, quick win, try the 5-Day Learn to Play Challenge—you’ll walk away playing three full songs by the end of the week.

Can I really learn online?

Absolutely. The step-by-step videos let you see and hear exactly how things should sound, and you can pause, rewind, and replay as often as you need. Many students find online lessons easier than in-person ones because you can go at your own pace and revisit anything that feels tricky. Plus, with play-alongs and jam tracks, you’ll get that “real world” feel of playing with others.

How long do I have access to the courses?

Forever! 🎉 Once you enroll, you’ll have lifetime access to all of your lessons and materials. That includes every video, chord guide, TAB, jam track, and practice resource. You can always go back and review, re-watch, or pick up where you left off—learning on your own schedule, at your own pace.
