We Played Noah Kahan's “Stick Season” on a Dulcimer Guitar

I've been listening to a lot of Noah Kahan lately, and there's something about “Stick Season” that just makes you want to pick up an instrument and play along.
If you're not familiar with Noah, he's a singer-songwriter from Vermont who's brought a whole lot of attention back to folk music over the past few years. And I'm here for it!
“Stick Season” came out in 2022, and the title actually refers to that weird time of year in New England when all the leaves have fallen, but winter hasn't quite shown up yet. Being down here in Nashville, we don't really have a name for that, but I think we can all relate to the feeling behind the song.
Anyway, Justin and I figured we'd give this one a shot for our latest Sunroom Sessions.
We pulled out the Cumberland River Dulcimers and started playing around with the arrangement. One of the things I love about these instruments is how well they work with songs you might not immediately associate with a dulcimer. We've played everything from old folk tunes to Tom Petty, and now we're adding a little Noah Kahan to the mix.
And I've gotta say, “Stick Season” is a pretty fun one to play!
A little about Sunroom Sessions
If you're new around here, Sunroom Sessions is something we started doing right here in my sunroom in Nashville.
The idea is pretty simple. Get some good musicians together, pick a song we love, and see what we can do with it on these instruments.
Sometimes it's an old classic, sometimes it's something a little unexpected. We don't worry too much about sticking to one genre, which is half the fun.
Justin's joined me for quite a few of these now, and we've got plenty more songs we'd like to tackle.
For now, here's our take on Noah Kahan's “Stick Season.” Hope you enjoy it!
