Why This Dulcimer Sounds So Different (G Tuning)

Why This Dulcimer Sounds So Different (G Tuning)

A lot of folks don’t realize this, but Seagull used to make the Merlin M4 in a G tuning. Most of what you see out there now is DAD (which is great and traditional), but G opens up a whole different range of keys and a slightly different feel when you play.  Trust me, it'll unlock a new creative space in your brain.

The problem is… Seagull stopped making them.

So we started working on a way to bring that option back.

👉 You can try to tune a DAD instrument down or up to G…
…but you’ll run into string tension issues pretty quickly. It’s just not built for that.  (And you might hurt yourself, not kidding)

So instead, we offer:

Conversion kits (strings + bridge saddle) so you can do it yourself
And now… a done-for-you G conversion, ready to play

This isn’t something we’ll have all the time, but we wanted to make it available for those of you who are curious about what G tuning sounds and feels like.

And honestly… it just makes you play a little differently. New ideas, different shapes, different sound.

Hard to explain—but you’ll hear it.

Also, would you want to have the G's in an EQ configuration? They were never sold that way by Seagull, but it's something we've been toying with. Email us at Hey@heyinglewood.com to let me know!
