The “Natural Talent” Myth (And Why It’s Holding You Back)
Share
Let’s talk about this idea of “natural talent” for a minute.
Because I hear it all the time…
“I’m not musical.”
“I tried once—it just wasn’t for me.”
“I don’t have that natural ability.”
And honestly? I don’t buy it.
After years of building instruments and sitting with players at all different levels, I’ve seen something way more important than talent:
Curiosity.
The people who stick with music aren’t always the “naturals.”
They’re the ones who keep coming back.
Who mess around.
Who play a few notes just to see what happens.
That’s it.
You don’t need 10,000 hours to start.
You don’t need a musical family.
You don’t need to be “gifted.”
You just need to be a little curious.
So if there’s even a small part of you that wants to make music… follow that.
Pick it up. Play something simple. See where it goes.
You might surprise yourself.
