Learn "Ain't No Sunshine" on our River Dulcimer Guitar

"Ain't No Sunshine" is a classic track by Bill Withers from his 1971 debut album. With some help from legendary musicians, this song became a huge hit, climbing the charts and reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100. It came back in 2009 on American Idol and was recently added to the National Recording Registry in 2024.

For this lesson I've taken it up from the original key of Am to Bm to accommodate the DAD tuning of standard dulcimers. I'll show you how to mimic the iconic base line, and throw some ideas out about which chord shapes I'd recommend, as well as some thoughts on arrangement. This lesson also works for Strumsticks, Seagull Merlins, and stick dulcimers.
